Tbilisi to Tsalka and Dashbashi Canyon by Rental Car

Dashbashi Canyon, also known as Tsalka Canyon, is in Kvemo Kartli near the village of Dashbashi. A day trip from Tbilisi can combine the drive, a canyon visit and lunch. A rental car gives you flexibility over departure time, but check the arrangements at the attraction before setting out.

What to check before leaving

The Khrami River gorge is known for its rock walls and waterfalls. The glass bridge and the walking route are separate parts of a visit. Before buying a ticket, check what it covers, whether the descent into the canyon is open and which restrictions apply on your chosen day.

A workable day plan

On arrival, assess the weather and check whether the walking route is available. If you want to descend towards the waterfalls, allow a separate block of time and enough energy for the climb back. Lunch in or around Tsalka is easier to arrange after the walk without a minute-by-minute schedule. Aim to finish the return drive before dark.

Highland weather and the walk

Tsalka lies in a highland area. Temperatures and wind can differ noticeably from conditions in Tbilisi. Bring an extra layer, rain protection and shoes with a grippy sole. Smooth-soled city shoes are a poor choice for damp steps and trails.

Arriving by car does not remove the walking involved. If you are travelling with young children or someone who finds stairs difficult, ask about access to the viewing areas and the canyon descent beforehand. Carry water and essentials with you, and leave heavy luggage out of sight in the locked boot.

Premium sedan or SUV?

Choose a car for the confirmed road route, passenger count and luggage. A comfortable sedan can be considered for an agreed paved approach. A premium crossover offers a higher seating position and a roomy cabin, but that does not authorise driving down unpaved tracks towards the gorge. For colder months, confirm suitable tyres and whether the trip is permitted in the expected conditions.
